The Human Race in the 26th Century

The Human Race has remained much the same for over 3,000 years, with little noticeable change in their outward appearances or inward structures. Cultures and fashions may alter dramatically, but human physiology has remained the same.

And so in the 26th century, humans who are born on Earth look little different from how they did in the 21st. Changes in lifestyle have meant that Earth humans are slightly taller, better educated and healthier. There is little true obesity amongst the population, laws were passed in the mid-21st century regarding food composition, and a social shift in regards to eating stamped out this problem.

Humans born on colony worlds can be different, however. Differences in gravity can produce either taller or shorter humans (with lower gravity, the inhabitants tend to be taller and vice versa) and also the physical robustness of the body. Humans born on higher gravity worlds tend to be stronger, as their bones are more developed, whilst low gravity humans are more fragile than an average, Earth born.

Genetic deformities and hereditary diseases have been all but removed from the population due to complex screening procedures before birth. Most diseases from the 21st century, including cancer and AIDS have been cured by the dawn of the 26th century.

Cloning is possible, but is still an extremely contentious social issue. There are a number of illegally produced human clones living on Earth and the Terran colonies.

The Rise of Telepaths

Telepaths are the latest minority to emerge amongst the human race. It stems from genetic mutations caused by the screening procedures, or deliberate enhancements, amongst the populations have led to the emergence of these homo-superiors.

Telepath numbers are very small, it is believed there are currently around 57,000 telepaths living on Earth, however without any official means of registration, this number is only a rough estimate.

Anti-Telepath violence is one of the most common forms of assault on Earth, and there are deep social issues to be dealt with in regards to Telepaths.

Divided into two categories, empathic and telepathic, the term "Telepaths" is something of a misnomer.

Empaths are capable of reading emotions only, and appear to be the weaker form of telepaths. Real telepaths are able to read thoughts, but the bigotry towards telepaths has meant that many people do not understand this key difference.

Whilst each are quite different, the same social stigmas are levelled against both as the distinctions are not widely known amongst non-telepaths ("Nots" as they are known by telepaths and empaths).

Telepaths can "see" what the person they are scanning can experience in terms of the senses, and read the thought of that individual. They can describe the situation and the thoughts, but nothing else.

Empaths can only read the emotion of the individual. So whilst telepaths may be able to see where the subject is and know what that person is thinking they will do next, telepaths can not feel what the person is feeling, which empaths can.

The two used in tandem complement each other, comprising the thoughts, emotions and senses of the individual.
