Basic Description

Description of the Ship:

Because of the Rosebourg depression of the late 2370s, designs for destroyer type starships were archived, and continually developed without any ships being built.

Then, in the late 50s, the Rosebourg Monarchy's space navy, in an attempt to maintain its maintenance costs down and still be able to project a massive amount of power, authorized the design and construction of the Clarel Class destroyer.

Unbeknownst to either the designers or the space navy, the Clarel Class Destroyer's speed and strength, as well as technological advancements have made her the most useful ship in the fleet.

History of the Class:

Originally, the space navy ordered only one hundred of these vessels. In 2483, the space navy requested an additional 900 hundred vessels. Of this series, all of them were delivered in 2493.

But since the 2490s, the replacement of all destroyers was placed as a top priority. Prompted in part by an aid package from the Terran Democratic Republic, the Rosebourg Monarchy placed in the mid 2490s an order for 3100 more vessels in urgent speed.

The ships should finish arriving through the mid 2510s.

The Clarel Class Destroyer works with a duo-matrix bi-variable vortex drive, a highly experimental propulsion system that was successfully placed aboard the Valeris fightercraft carrier.

After many experiments where the hull was literally torn apart, the Duo-Matrix Vortex Drive Division were able to modify the vortex-drive in order to decrease the stresses caused by the drives.

The result is one of the most efficient systems that are capable of sending the Clarel Class Destroyer at speeds much greater than any other ship of her type.

Only it, and the Valeris fightercraft carrier have been able to use this drive, though the Clarel class Heavy Destroyer is the first time it was used with noticeable improvements in performance.

The Clarel Class Heavy Destroyer, unlike the Valeris was the fastest ship ever built in the universe at the time of her completion, thanks in great part to the highly experimental duo-matrix drive.

Description of System:

The advanced internal cabling system was designed by the Ocyt International Company in order to satisfy a Rosebourg order for a cable that could sustain a power transfer to the ship's forward weaponry originating from the Vortex I drive aboard the RMRS Clarel.

The cabling had to be reinforced and totally redesigned, but the result is a capable that is able to handle the transfer of power allowing the forward laser turrets to fire shots with an energy level that is comparable to the best of warships.

The medical bay on the R.M.R.S. Clarel was designed to be a miniature version of medical bays equipped aboard the bigger battleships. In order to do this, the number of beds was significantly reduced and the surgical suite was removed in order to maximize on space.

The result is a medical bay capable of first-aid and stabilizing medical aid, though it is quite incapable of performing highly technical medicine. The Clarel will thus often call upon the aid of a hospital ship should it get involved in direct combat.

The medical bay is a circular room that has one entrance into the medical bay, and straight across from it three side rooms (a cryogenics room, and doctor's and nurse's offices).

The medical beds are spaced out evenly around the circle; twenty in all are always maintained, ready to provide medical assistance to those aboard the crew who might need it.

These medical beds, however, were not designed for extensive surgery and should only be used as such in the event of a catastrophic event that requires immediate medical attention in order to prevent death.

Aboard Clarel Class Destroyers, the Raven's Roost, TCAC and Battle Bridge modules, which worked independently aboard other battleships, were merged into a single three-deck module. Known as the C.C.I (Command, Combat, and Intelligence) Center, the facilities three levels are linked with one another with an independent elevator shaft.

On the first level of the CCI is the Raven's Roost, a circular room that is split in the middle by a central corridor, and a central chair. In the chair is the Chief Intelligence Officer whose job is to coordinate the ELINT and SIGINT data that pours through the sensors of the Clarel. ELINT stations are numerous and are located in front of the chair, while SIGINT stations are located behind the chair. The elevator shaft connecting the C.C.I. to the rest of the ship is located to the left of the Chief Intelligence Officer's chair, while the shaft connected to the other levels of the C.C.I is located to the right.

On the second level of the CCI is the Battle Bridge, the central command operation for the ship. From the Battle Bridge, the ship can be manoeuvred; weapons can be fired, and general ships communication's can be transmitted. The Battle Bridge operates as unified U-shaped room. Operations, Mission Operations, and Damage Control consoles are located in the center, while the right of the room concentrates on navigations and tactical operations. A massive view screen that can be made to show visual communications and or video recording from space dominates the left of the room. The Captain's chair stands behind all of these consoles, and very noticeably, there are no chairs conceived for a second officer or an executive officer to sit in. Elevator access is located next to the Operations consoles.

The third level of the CCI is the Tactical Combat Analysis Center; a fully circular room that is dominated in the center by a massive circular display that shows a large map of the sector of space the Clarel is currently located in. Ringing this display, are a variety of consoles that show the capabilities of the ship as well as other combatants involved. The TCAC compiles all available information from Raven's Roost that concerns possible threats, as well as current allied capabilities in the area, and from this can extrapolate data that expedites the most logical combat decisions for the starship.

There are two doors that lead to the elevator access shafts and a separate third door that leads to the small Captain's Office.

The C.C.I. is dominated by gray metallic colours and is usually dimly lit by a dark blue colour.

Compartments: 12 - Central Engineering

The Clarel class starships are direct descendants of the standard Rosebourgian attitude towards the construction of engineering sections. However, because of the dual vortex power generators to keep the ship moving, the Central Engineering that is standard aboard all Rosebourg ships has been squeezed in between the two power cores.

In order to maintain the deck strength, much of the glass that was present in the room has been removed and replaced with tritanium. Engineering is spread over 7 decks, due to the two vortex drives, as well as to the lack of real central design to the Engineering modules.

Serving as a partial means of coordination amongst all the engineering sub-departments, Central Engineering was created as a central meeting point.

An oval room, Central Engineering is dominated by the junction piece between Vortex Drive I and Vortex Drive II. The junction looks as if there is a constant white liquid circulating within the corridor that cannot, under any circumstances be broken.

Consoles that control the coordination, and allocation of engineering resources follow the shape of the circular room, with a door on both sides leading to elevators.

There are two other doors, which lead to access ports where maintenance can be performed on the entire ship.
