Description of the Ship:

A recent addition to the fleet, the Katingi light fightercraft carrier first made its debut in 2499. The Katingis were planned to carry a small fightercraft stike force that could be projected rapidly in trouble spots.

With one third of the power that the Valeris fightercraft carriers carry in their holds, the Katingi make up their loss of power with speed and endurance. These ships are a platform bred for mobility.

History of the Class:

The Katingis are amongst the newest additions to the Rosebourg fleet following several decades of relatively few designs to come out of Rosebourg military research and development infrastructure.

Taking full advantage of Rosebourg advances in the effective use of speed to counteract Gohorn and Terran military developments, the Katingi takes a page from the Rosebourg Ghost Fleet, sacrificing projective power in order to make it the fastest platform.

This allows the Katingis to surprise the enemy with just enough firepower to knock down defences in time for the rest of the fleet to arrive.

Description of System:

Originally developed for the Valeris class fightercraft carrier, the Katingis have been fitted with an improved and automated version of the Valeris' minesweeper system in order to enable to safely support strike teams composed of itself and fast wolf-packs of Berleos and Clarel class destroyers as escort.

The automated minesweeper system is composed of drones approximately 1.5 meters in length and 1.08 meters in width. The drones have an effective range of 1,000,000 kilometer, and execute focused scans for normally undetectable mines.

They can also be used for anti-fightercraft purposes, emitting laser discharges of up to 5 TW each, the ship equips approximately 30 drones at a time. The drones are equipped with anti-sensor detection technology but have no counter-measures and are lightly armoured.

The minesweeper system can only be used when the ship is on thruster power, and because of the limited speed of these support crafts, the ship cannot operate at full speed without compromising the effectiveness of the drone network.
