Basic Description

Description of the Ship:

Using the space-frame of the Backra class Light Destroyer, the Farlos has several key modifications. The missiles and torpedo systems have been removed and replaced by anti-fightercraft weaponry. Anti-fighter craft gun batteries are lined up along both sides of the hull, and on the top and bottom.

Farlos class ships are meant to support groupings of starships (squadrons, fleets etc.) and to quickly and effectively handle the fighters, freeing the capital ships from fightercraft harassment.

Construction Details

Construction Site(s): Gohorn Main Shipyard, Gohorn Prime: The Gohorn System
First Commission: 492.10.09 (10th of September, 2492)
History of the Class:

The Gohorn Directorate has never had a great deal of success with its fighter craft. Its biggest enemy, the Terran Democratic Republic, uses them to great effect, putting the Directorate at a disadvantage.

The Gohorns were faced with two choices, either throw lots of resources in to finding a way to bring their fighters up to scratch, or take the usual line and build a capital ship specifically designed to handle fighter craft.

The Velakor chose the latter option, and thus the Farlos class Light Destroyer was born.

Special Systems

Onboard System
Name: Prototype Anti-Fightercraft Missiles
Model: PROTO-AFM
Manufacturer: Velakor Weapons Research Institue, Gohorn Prime
Description of System:

Prototype Anti-Fightercraft Missiles are the latest in a long line of innovative weapons to come out of the Velakor Research Institute. Supressing the Terran fightercraft advantage has been an obsession of the Gohorns ever since the first War, and the PROTO-AFMs are the latest initiative trying to do that.

Smaller than standard missiles, and containing 3/4 of the firepower, Anti-Fightercraft Missiles have been given engine technology that was stolen from a neutral race, allowing the Missiles to move faster and thus make it less easy for a fightercraft to avoid an incoming missile.

Internal Room Layout

Compartments: 2 - Fighter Command Center

On some of the larger Terran ships there are command centers specially dedicated to directing the Terran fighter craft in battle. Likewise and in antithesis, the Farlos has its own control room from which the weapons or it and other Farlos class ships in the fleet can coordinate to take down the Terran fighters.

A circular room with an operations table in the center around which sit seven Gohorns, there is a large screen that encompasses the entire back wall of Anti-Fightercraft Command.

In battle, it is constantly displaying the presence of fighters, highlighting in red those within the firing range of a Farlos class vessel and orange for those that aren't. Anti-Fightercraft Command is usually manned by the second officer.

Internal Room Layout

Compartments: 5 - Command Centre

The Command Center for the Farlos is circular with consoles along the circumference of the wall. Facing towards the fore sections of the vessel is a large screen that spans from floor to ceiling. The room's ceiling is 5 meters off the floor, to allow room for the Captain of the vessel to stand on the elevated level of the "command deck."

The Command Deck (CD) is a circular platform 3 meters in diameter, raised 1 meter off the deck of the ship. There are rails all around this command deck, with only one staircase on and off it. Attached to the rails are sensor monitors and smaller consoles so if necessary, the Captain can do all the basic functions of the vessel.

Each Captain has his own preference towards seating. Some prefer sitting, others prefer to stand. So when a new Captain boards his vessel, he can either get rid of or bring in a chair for him to sit on. This chair would be fixed in front of the fore most consoles of the railing, facing the screen and can swivel around the rails.

All of the consoles in the Farlos's Command Center can be pushed in to the wall if greater space is needed. For instance, the science console, which does not serve as much purpose on this vessel, can quite easily be put away to create room for officers to move around.

Internal Room Layout

Compartments: 6 - Main Engineering

The Engine Room is located above the main Vortex drive area, but there are stairs and lifts down to the Vortex Maintenance rooms. The Engine Room is called so because they regulate the Vortex drive from it and the rest of the systems on the ship. The Main Engine Room is a large, square room with a big circular table in the middle.

From either side of the room, four corridors lead off. One to the lifts, which will take you to the rest of the ship and one for the stairs, and lifts from which you can access the Vortex Drive. A third to access a medium sized room, which deals with power distribution, and the fourth will take you to the rest of the deck.

As is always necessary in any Engine Section, space is essential because there are lots of Engineers. The corridors on this deck are twice the size to accommodate lots of people during a crisis. Consoles line all of the walls and the large table is covered with them too.
