Basic Description

Description of the Ship:

The Katarena is a small vessel with a size comparable to the newer Berleos light destroyer class, indeed the Katarena can be seen as an ancestor to the Berleos.

Katarena class starships can now be found operating as the preferred escort ship of most supply convoys between the Rosebourg Monarchy and the Terran Democratic Republic.

They have yet to be massively redeployed to front-line duty because their relative weapon strength is of no match to newer class of starships.

History of the Class:

The Katarena class is one of the oldest class of combat starships still active in the Rosebourg navy.

The Karatena class was developed to fill a perceived hole in escort ship capabilities. With distances travelled by supply convoys and ships of the line getting larger, it was viewed that a small vessel which required little maintenance would be much more useful so as to allow larger ships to be relieved from the task of escorting.

The Katarena class has filled this role extremely well since it was launched into service in 2437, since then there have been progressive orders made between 2437 and 2467.
