Basic Description

Description of the Ship:
The Melbourne class Light Destroyer is the cheaper, faster version of the Catalena class Destroyer. Where the Catalena is a work-horse, the Light Destroyer is an escort and patrol ship, providing backup to starship squadrons and logistical support to major fleet operations. Built in the mid part of the 25th century, when the UNPPF underwent a major overhaul of its entire military (many older classes, including the predecessor Light Destroyers, the Columbus and the Nevada class, were mothballed), the Melbourne was built to be faster and more easily defended than former ships in the class.

Internal Room Layout

Compartments: 1 - Main Bridge
The Main Bridge for the Melbourne class ship is the same module as that used for the Okinawa class frigate, small and compact. In the middle is the Captain's chair. Behind him is a tactical display screen (a transparent glass chart overlaid with computer lines and symbols to show borders and ships) and "tactical table," a circular table from which the Captain can command the battle. In front of him is the pilot, and along the front wall are windows with a holographic display web installed in the struts, to zoom in on far away objects or focus on certain visuals. To his left is the communications station and to his right, operations.
